ARA-290, known by the INN cibinetide, is a synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide fragment derived from erythropoietin (EPO) and engineered to activate the heterodimeric “innate repair receptor” (a complex of the EPO receptor and CD131) without triggering EPO’s blood-thickening, erythropoietic activity. Published research has examined its interaction with this receptor complex and downstream tissue-protective and anti-inflammatory signaling in laboratory and clinical-trial models. The summary below reflects the published literature and is provided for research reference only — it does not describe an intended effect of this product in humans or animals.
What is ARA-290?
This formulation features ARA-290, a synthetic peptide studied in laboratory and clinical research for its interaction with cellular and tissue-level signaling pathways. Researchers developed the compound by identifying the region of the EPO molecule responsible for tissue-protective (rather than erythropoietic) signaling, then stabilizing that fragment as an independent 11-mer peptide. Its targeted structure has made it a subject of interest in studies exploring how EPO-derived peptides engage with innate repair signaling in controlled research environments. This compound is intended for research use only, and its applications outside of laboratory settings have not been established.

Research Applications
Small-Fiber Neuropathy & Nerve Regeneration Models
A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in patients with sarcoidosis-associated small-fiber neuropathy examined daily subcutaneous dosing (1, 4, or 8mg) over 28 days in 64 participants. Researchers reported that the 4mg dose was associated with increased corneal nerve fiber area and greater density of regenerating (GAP-43-positive) skin nerve fibers, with improvement in some neuropathic symptom scores, though a pain-intensity measure did not separate from placebo in that dose-ranging study. This research program was conducted by the compound’s originating developer and has not progressed to regulatory approval for any indication.
Tissue-Protective & Anti-Inflammatory Signaling
Broader preclinical research has examined activation of the innate repair receptor as a mechanism for calming inflammatory signaling and supporting tissue-repair pathways in injured or inflamed tissue models, distinct from the blood-cell-producing activity associated with native EPO.
